Original Version
"This is an experimental music video inspired by the moving melody of 'I Have An Apple,' crafted by the talented Chinese artist Amber Kuo. The original soundtrack for the film was "I Have An Apple," but I wasn't able to obtain the rights to use it from the artist, who is signed with Universal Music Group. As a result, I worked with a different musician to create a new soundtrack that was specifically tailored to fit the visuals in the film. We're now in the process of submitting this updated version to film festivals.
In this video, I seek to delve into the intricate battle that I, as an Asian woman, face while pursuing my aspirations. Growing up amidst the rich Asian culture and the complex Chinese political environment, I imbibed the virtues of silence and tolerance as the highest ideals. Consequently, I developed a tendency to suppress my negative emotions. However, after I came to the United States to pursue my college education, I learned that it's not a "sin" to speak up and express my struggles and emotions. In fact, it's essential to let others know about my challenges and emotions.
Reflecting on the various forms of media- film, TV, music videos, documentaries- the representation of Asian women is almost non-existent. The silence imposed on us by society and, most importantly, by ourselves, is deafening.
I yearn to voice my feelings- my anxiety, anger, grievances, and sorrow. And most importantly, I seek to explore ways of addressing these emotions."
